Why There Must Be Style Ethics

January 28, 2010

I get it.  Celebrities take risks and set trends.  Their beauty and thinness inspires a confidence that whispers (or screams), “you can wear that girl!”  But sometimes, they are the most in need of reality checks.  I mean, seriously?!

Whitney Port in Diane von Furstenberg Jumpsuit

Just because you work for DvF does not mean you have to wear EVERYTHING she makes.  This champagne colored silk jumpsuit does nothing for The City‘s Whitney Port.  She’s a tall, thin girl and this makes her look bottom heavy with sagging boobs.  I also don’t understand adding a bag in a cool dark gray to such a warm-toned look.

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana Floral Faux Wrap Dress

Where to begin?  First, I’m shocked that the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, kings of sexy dresses and all things that sizzle (Hello?! Where’s the bustier? The leopard print? The form-fittingness of a D&G dress?) could even produce such a dreaded floral.  Second, why is a young woman with a gorgeous figure such as Scarlett Johansson wearing said dreaded floral?  And where did her waist go?  Finally, why in the world is she wearing it to the opening night after-party for her Broadway debut in A View From the Bridge?! Sigh.
