Michelle Obama’s Look at the State of the Union Address

The First Lady looked stunning at the State of the Union address last night.  She wore a 3/4 length sleeved sweater and bubble skirt in a delicious aubergine color that just makes her skin radiate.  Divine and so perfect for winter!

She added pearls and a side swept bang (more reminiscent of her old ‘do) to her perfect bob.  She must have had Ted Gibson in there working his magic – you know how I feel about Ted – because her hair hasn’t been this fabulous in months, I’m sad to say.

Her makeup look was pretty and polished.  She had a defined eye, highlighted brow bone, sculpted but natural cheeks with a respectable pop of color and of course, a glossy smile that went beautifully with her ensemble.  I do like that she didn’t go as bright pink with the lipstick and lip gloss this time around.

My only concern: assuming the skirt had a bubble hem, I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for someone so pear-shaped.  And I question its age-appropriateness.  For me, bubble skirts and dresses say “fun, party frock” not so much “State of the Union Serious.”  That said, I love that she doesn’t look over-wrought or worse still, wearing a pantsuit.  She takes fashion risks and challenges the status quo.  She makes 46 look good and for that alone, she’s exciting to watch.

What do you think about this look?

CORRECTION: The First Lady’s garment is an Isaac Mizrahi dress [Huffington Post].

I thought the first lady looked flawless! Makeup, Hair and attire were elegant but fun. I appreciate her stylish risks and her ability to fashionably push the envelope.
