Must-Try Holiday Beauty Looks

December 23, 2009

You’ve been subtle with your makeup all year. Now is the perfect time to have a little fun with your look. Here are three ways to go more glam for the holidays.

Red Lips

These ladies prove that anyone can wear red lipstick. The trick is finding the right one. Fair skin, dark hair? Go for a true red, which has a bit of a blue undertone. Blonde and fair? Dark fuchsia or tomato red will pop your pout. Medium complexions can usually go warm or cool easily. Same goes for dark skin. My current fave is Lancome L’Absolu Rouge in Berry Noir. Start with a matching lipliner for longer, more even wear and to prevent your color from bleeding.

Silver Eye Shadow

There’s nothing more festive than silver shimmer! The easiest way is to swipe just the upper lid and bring it in towards the inner corner of your eyes (see Eva Longoria). Bobbi Brown Chrome Collection Eye Shadow in Silver is a great one to try. For more drama, go smoky silver like Jennifer Hudson. First, line the entire eye with black eyeliner. Cover the entire lid in silver shadow then add a gunmetal grey shadow to the outer corners of the eyes, blend, apply mascara and once dry, finish with black liquid liner.

Rosy Cheeks

More of a blush girl? Get more glow with a rosy cheek. Try something in a shade brighter than you might normally wear. You can wear it alone or over your favorite blush. Like shimmer? Dust a complementary highlighting shade on the outer part of your cheekbones, where the sun would hit when you smile. For a nice bright, I like MAC Powder Blush in Breezy. If you want to go bright but deep like Eva Mendes, try NARS Cream Blush in Gueule de Nuit or Cactus Flower.
