On the Road to Perfect Skin with Mario Badescu

December 16, 2009

With so many celebrity followers and an incredible reputation amongst NYC skincare junkies, Mario Badescu has been on my “to try” list for a while now. I sampled the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser about a year ago, but we all know that samples rarely provide enough product to make a real assessment. So when I saw Mario Badescu on Gilt Groupe, I was thrilled. For a steal, I got the the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser and Glycolic Acid Toner. Upon getting the box from my doorman two weeks ago, I couldn’t get to the elevator and up to my apartment fast enough.

Two weeks later, I’m psyched to announce that not only does my skin feel smoother but it’s glowing and get this — the dark spots are actually starting to fade! As a woman with brown skin, dark spots are my issue. Forget fine lines and wrinkles. Brown spots are the real culprit of aging and I’ve been on what feels like a decade-long search for the miracle product that grant me complexion perfection. I know, such pressure to put on a single product.

My routine over the past two weeks has been as follows: I’ve used the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser 3-4 times a week (although I could probably use it daily, I wanted to start with some caution) and the Glycolic Acid Toner twice a day. I’ve definitely experienced some dryness and flaking but it’s completely manageable and in my opinion, preferable to the alternative (oily skin is prone to serious breakouts and you know what that means…MORE DARK SPOTS!). I think it’s due to the toner or perhaps the combination of these two products with my DDF 10% Exfoliating Oil Control Gel (another amazing product that actually works in preventing oil breakthrough over time). I use the serum only at night but it may be a strong enough trio to dry me out a bit. No matter. I’ll take a temporary dry patch for spotless skin, and Mario Badescu has me well on my way.

So funny – so did I! We’ll have to compare notes. I think the cleanser is a shower gel though, right?

I think I’m sold! I’ve been wanting to try his famous drying lotion for recent breakouts…but maybe I should start with the face wash after reading your review. What kind of moisturizer are you using?

Because I use so many Glycolic products, I must use SPF 30 so I use Lancome Bienfait Lotion during the day. At night, I use YSL Temps Majeur Intense Skin Supplement (it’s $330…Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer or a rich night cream – preferably something anti-aging since skin care works best between midnight and 4am – would be more than fine). If you get the drying lotion, let me know how it works!
